The project provided a particular challenge in design terms, given the traditional context of the adjacent existing buildings on the campus, and the Client Brief to design an Arabic styled building that would match the context. The faculty brief for the interiors of the building was for a modern open design with natural light and excellent passive solar design along with a requirement to provide natural light to all the offices in the building. This was attained by the provision of 3 central courtyards, covered with open latticed domes that provide shading and shadow modulation of the courtyards.
